The city of Beersheva in the south of Israel was a major target of the missile and rocket attacks from Gaza that besieged the country during Operation Pillar of Defense in November

Chabad representatives, who were literally working under fire, encouraging and assisting residents, are now continuing this important work both during and after Chanukah.

With the message, "Light will Win" as an inspiration, they brought the light and joy of Chanukah to traumatized residents of neighborhoods that were affected by direct missile attacks.

One evening, there was a candle-lighting in the Ramot neighborhood, in a home that had suffered a direct hit. Thank G‑d, there were no injuries to the residents, however the anxiety and fear the children experienced remains with them.

Rabbi Yossi Slavin, the Chabad representative in Ramot, organized a beautiful celebration in the community with local residents. The chief Chabad Rabbi from Beer Sheva, Rabbi Zalman Gorelik, came and delivered words of encouragement and reassurance.

To the sound of Chasidic music, the crowd broke out in joyous singing and dancing, thanking G‑d for the miracles and wonders that happened in ancient days and in our own time.

Rabbi Menachem Kutner, Director of Chabad Terror Victims Project, attended the ceremony and surprised the children in the neighborhood with beautiful gifts and letters of encouragement that were sent from Chabad Houses and Jewish communities around the world, expressing love and solidarity with the people of Israel and especially the children of the South.
