A Simple Act: The Difference a Car Can Make
Rabbi Menachem Kutner, Director of CTVP, and Rabbi Zalman Gorelik were at the Soroka Medical Center at the bedsides of some of the most seriously wounded victims, bringing them and their families the reassurance that they were not alone, that CTVP will be with them, providing all the help they need, for as long as they need it.
There are many stories that have emerged from these days of terror and fear, stories of the unique help that only CTVP is able to provide to families shattered by terror. Here is just one.
Rabbi Kutner was in the Department of Orthopedics when he met a family from Eilat. Their son had been hit by two bullets and was in surgery fighting for his life.
While Rabbi Kutner was comforting the family, an army commander came to ask the family what type of assistance they required. They said they live in Eilat and since their son was in the hospital in Beersheva, they needed transportation to be able to go back and forth to be with him.
The commander said that unfortunately he was only able to offer them bus fare since that is what the law provides in such situations.
The family was distressed at having to take long bus rides back and forth under these difficult circumstances. They wanted to be able to go their son at any time, not just when the buses ran.
Rabbi Kutner told the family that CTVP would pay for a car rental for as long as they needed it, so they could be at the hospital as much as possible. He told them he wanted them to have this peace of mind so they could concentrate on helping their son to heal.
The mother of the young man responded with tears in her eyes to this generous offer of aid and assistance. She told Rabbi Kutner it was such a comfort to have him and CTVP with them during this heartrending and harrowing ordeal.
