At the same time, staff from the local Chabad House, along with volunteers from the Lubavitch Youth Organization’s Chabad Terror Victims Project (CTVP), paid each soldier a surprise visit. They brought with them a special Shabbos care package. During the Shabbos meals, Chabad House volunteers went from ward to ward, making Kiddush for the soldiers and singing Shabbos zemiros to raise their spirits.
The shliach to Beersheva, Rabbi Zalman Garelik, Rabbi Menachem Kutner of the Chabad Terror Victims Project (CTVP), and Rabbi Yudi Zaller of New York spent much time with the soldiers. The care package that each soldier and his family received was comprised of a bottle of wine for Kiddush, two challos, a Kiddush goblet, a pair of candlesticks and candles, and a booklet of Shabbos songs.
The families expressed their appreciation for this kind and sensitive gesture that created a warm Shabbos atmosphere in spite of the situation.
