He left to pick up his children. The terrorist left for another reason…

On August 26, 2020, 39-year-old Rabbi Shai Ohayon closed the books of Talmud he had been teaching and left the Kollel (study hall) to pick up his children from their Cheder (school).

At the same time, not far away, a Palestinian terrorist took a knife and left his home with a different objective - to kill Jews.

Sadly, on a busy street in Petah Tikvah, their paths crossed, and without provocation, the terrorist attacked Rabbi Ohayon and stabbed him multiple times. Rabbi Ohayon struggled valiantly with the terrorist while screaming forcefully to alert passers-by of the terrorist in their midst.

By the time help reached him, the terrorist was gone. With his last breath, Rabbi Ohayon warned them of the danger as he lay dying.

Since that day, we at Chabad’s Terror Victims Project (CTVP) have been with this family helping them in every way possible.

When the Covid lockdown left Mrs. Ohayon trying to manage all by herself at home with four small children, we were there for her - making sure she and the children had food, games to keep the children occupied, and computers so they could attend school remotely.

Now, her son Hillel was turning 13. Without his father to prepare him for his Bar Mitzvah, and without her husband to help arrange the festivities, Mrs. Ohayon did not know how they would celebrate the first family Simcha since they lost their father and husband.

Of course - as we at Chabad’s Terror Victims Project have sadly done so many times – we told her there was no reason to worry. We would take care of everything, A to Z.

And that is precisely what we did.

We have only one request from you, our dear partners: Please watch this short video of the Bar Mitzvah highlights…

…because you deserve to share in this Simcha.

Your continued partnership with CTVP made all the smiles and joy possible for this young family – and many other families like them – whose lives have been shattered by the violence of terror and war.

May Hashem bless you for your kindness and generosity with a life filled with smiles and joy always.
