As is customary every year, tens of families affected by terror, gathered for a Chanuka party arranged by Chabad of Be’er Sheva. The warmth and joy affected all participants. The bereaved father, Mr. Meir Asulin, lit the fourth candle of Chanuka

Chabad’s Klezmer band greeted the families with joyous Chanuka songs. Following opening words from the Shliach to Be’er Sheva, Rabbi Zalman Gorelik, they invited Mr. Meir Asulin to light the fourth light of Chanuka. His son, Doron, was killed ten months ago in an IDF operation in Gaza, while trying to uproot terrorists.

Rabbi Gorelik spoke about the message of the Chanuka miracle in the days of old and in our modern times, and he spoke words of strength and encouragement. Rabbi Meir Vorozov of Chabad’s Youth Organization related a story of lighting the Menora underground by Chassidim in Russia, and together with the band broke out in joyous song, causing all the participants to join in dancing. A magician held the children spellbound with his tricks, while incorporating educational Chanuka messages.

Mrs. Sara Malka, whose daughter Karin was killed in a bus bombing in Be’er Sheva, related how difficult it has been for their family since the tragedy, but she wants to take the opportunity to thank Chabad for their wonderful projects which grant them many moments of joy and laughter.

Rabbi Menachem Kutner of Chabad’s Terror Vicitm Project spoke about the strength of the Chanuka lights, and thanked the Chabad House and the volunteer staff who made home visits to all the families and lit the menorah with them.
